Stretchin’ a Dollar

2008

one hundred U.S. cents flattened by commercial freight train
1 x 14.4 inches

Stretchin’ a Dollar collectively removes one hundred U.S. cents out of circulation by placing 100 cents on a train track where they were flattened by a commercial freight train. Each coin that leaves the U.S. mint has a birth date or production date on its face and, by flattening each coin they are deemed “destroyed”.
This gesture collectively removes one dollar out of circulation and reduces the money supply while increasing the collective wealth of everyone else who owns money.
The dollar is installed in a horizontal line on a wall extending over 14 feet long.
